Leadership operates with a visible gap between stated values and actual behavior. The rhetoric around trust and autonomy doesn't match the reality: decisions get second-guessed, and micromanagement is the norm even for senior contributors. Over time, that inconsistency takes a real toll. It's hard to do your best work in an environment where you're given responsibility but not the trust to carry it out. Culture piece is worth calling out specifically: it's talked about constantly but not actually practiced. What gets rewarded is output, full stop. Bringing your whole self to work, investing in relationships, caring about team health, those things are penalized, not recognized. It creates a transactional environment where it quickly becomes clear that leadership is under pressure and employees are a means to an end.

This company sources great talent. The team was filled with tough, thoughtful and experienced professionals who did their best to push best practices despite a very challenging internal environment.

After years of turnover, there is still limited progress in building a team or delivering a clear product. Direction was frequently unclear and at times felt like a classic case of “product hallucination.” The C-suite often seemed to have a fully formed product vision in mind, held to it rigidly and became harsh when the team didn't fully read their minds. Leadership wanted to build their singular vision without incorporating the basics of modern product building like external user research, real-world validation, and iteration which limited the team's ability to create better design and engineering solutions. The strong professionals that were hired were often frustrated, micro managed and blocked. In a relatively short period of time, a significant portion of the team changed over. Compensation expectations, particularly around bonuses changed without notice. Even though initial compensation was competitive, overall tenure could feel uncertain. The work environment could feel quite negative. Accountability seemed to just flow downward, and "favorites" could shift frequently. Frustration across the team appeared to be widely shared. Concerns about leadership approach and professionalism that were raised were not addressed. The company seems committed to continuing this approach despite limited visible product progress.
