Vantaggi
There are opportunities in every experience. Unfortunately, the experience at NTST may yield you more examples of what NOT to do and how NOT to do it, but if you subscribe to the theory that we are always learning, this is a case study in how to drive people and a culture into the ground.
Svantaggi
Blatant belittling, demeaning, and outright demoralization are applauded and behavior deemed as promotion-worthy. Rampant name-calling and personal attacks are served up from two individuals on a near-daily basis. You will hear colleagues publicly humiliated -- sometimes to their face and other times, it's just "more fun" to ridicule them behind their backs when they're on the other side of the building. If you are young and submissive, this is your place. Or if you're a foul-mouth (that would make a sailor blush), mad-at-the-world, chip-on-your-shoulder individual, that also seems to be held in high regard. To succeed, you should pontificate regularly, but never actually deliver anything. And make sure any record of you committing to delivery is never written down or distributed for others to see. If you are in the "chosen few", you can get away with publicly attacking people with vulgar venom and wrath -- and then joke about how you got reported to HR every chance you get, just to intimidate your peers and let them know you are untouchable. If you have the slightest ethical and moral code, or a hint of a backbone, steer clear. You will, many days, leave feeling physically ill and in shock at the behavior that is allowed. You should walk carefully with your back against a wall at all times so as to keep the number of knives you have to pull out each evening to a minimum. You will hear #values spouted like it's holy water from the pontiff-himself. These #values are in place to help them sleep at night. Words may matter to some, but it is often dismissed and scoffed at by a particular executive as "spin". It's hypocrisy re-defined and if you dare regurgitate the #values while trying to defend or support a colleague, you are in no uncertain terms, shut down. The attrition of the organization continues to increase at a startling level. They will refer to the staggering statistics as "not a good fit for the culture" and suggest any naysayers "need to be managed out." This is one point I agree with -- housecleaning is desperately needed, and it starts with the most-narcissistic individual in leadership. An organization run on fear and intimidation is a house of cards.
