Vantaggi
If you don't like to actually do a lot of work, or expect to be compensated for working hard, NYL is a good place to work. Granted, I've only been here for a few months, but it seems like people work maybe 3 hours a day. The gym is a nice perk, and the 401k plan is fairly comprehensive. Health insurance includes a PPO option, which is nice.
Svantaggi
The company is stuck in an old school model that expects loyalty, and therefore does not work to keep employees. It seems like a given that a good full time job will encourage employees to do grad school, but NYL does not pay for grad school past the first $2,500 per year. They offer a pension plan, which is a useless benefit for the 20-somethings (like me) that they hire and train, and only goes to show how out of touch they are with today's employee-employer expectations. I don't plan to stay for 40 years, especially given the dearth of promotions and mobility I've seen.
