Vantaggi

- Decent perks, though industry standard by now - Very good treatment during the pandemic - Some very talented people, a wealth of valuable Unreal Engine experience - Microsoft brought job security and creative freedom, though that was a blessing and a curse - Still looks good on your resume

Svantaggi

- Megalomaniac, arrogant, untrustworthy leadership. Tameem Antoniades, the Chief Creative Director and Co-Founder, is basically an incompetent goth Kojima wannabe, and procrastinator-in-chief (his instagram and GQ interview are recommended reading). Dom Matthews, the Studio Head, seems happy to enable him as long as he scoops praise and rewards. The management structure underwent a few changes over the last two years, but the main goal of them was to make Antoniades happy and comfortable, not to make the team functional. - Powerless middle management. Part due to the leadership, part to there not being any lead roles at Ninja Theory anymore. Really. Since early-mid 2020 everyone answers directly to Tameem Antoniades, exacerbating the issues. - Toxic atmosphere. The leadership will not change, and long-serving staff knowing this always try to silence dissenting voices, as shown by another recent review on here. - Poor salaries. For most, Ninja Theory pays the worst wages in Cambridge. Nominal wage bands have not moved since the Microsoft buyout. The 10-15 top staff are well-rewarded, however. - Unprofessional approach to professional development. HR is throwing things at the wall and seeing what sticks. - The tech department is not listened to or represented in the leadership. If it doesn't sound cool, it doesn't get made. Useless tech that would make a good soundbite swallows up months of work. - An obsession with small teams and no visible benefit from it. The studio is spread thin between multiple projects, prototypes, and ideas that don't stand up to five minutes of scrutiny. - Erratic hiring. I have seen an overwhelming majority of a year's hires have their probation prolonged, then either leave or be released without warning, after the company seemed unsure of what their roles should be and/or did not give sufficient support. - There is a long history of nepotism at the company at the highest levels and it's not going anywhere anytime soon. - The studio's focus on mental health work, even if it came from the heart initially, seems to have become a topic to exploit for mainstream relevance and awards. - Nobody in the leadership plays games. Due to their mainstream fame hunger, game references are laughed away, instead the film industry and its practices are put on pedestal regardless of merit. It honestly feels like Antoniades would prefer to be a film director.

Vantaggi

Great team, send over all necessary it equipment to get you started if you work remotely, always welcome to visit and the office is a great place.

Svantaggi

This appears to no longer be the case but one of the senior directors made it really difficult for creative contribution.
