I had worked for this company for a few years off and on. I always went back because it was 9-5 and a quick and easy job to go back too. But I would never ever recommend working there to anyone. Management treats staff so badly. You have unrealistic expectations to hit stupidly high KPIs even if nobody comes into the store you are forced to pounce on them and sell sell sell. It’s so uncomfortable and half the time customers get mad. You weren’t aloud to stand and talk to a co worker at all, they constantly watched you on the cameras and would call and yell at staff who talked even with no one in the store. I worked as a full time sales assistant, section manager and assistant manager doing things from home including payroll on my days off and never go a pay rise despite asking over and over again for doing 3 peoples job! The merchandisers who also did Mens wear and women’s wear were constantly watching and listening in on conversations then complaining about you to head office. Basically being told you’re never good enough and consistently getting in trouble for nothing. They offer staff who are full time a “45% staff discount” but never would let us use it and everyone we were worried about getting in trouble. Even just one item there would be emails about us having it revoked. You could barely even use the discount on yourself unless it was approved. Managers are passive aggressive and don’t care about staff mental health. A lot of managers especially in Albany are HUGE bully’s and the reviews reflect it. Even the regional managers are just as bad. Now I can say all of this because I watched all of this happen for 2+ years… I could say so much more but I honestly don’t even want this place on my mind anymore. It ruined my experience in retail and I pray no one’s kids work here. Even casually or part time it’s not worth the stress and bullying.

Some staff were genuinely friendly.

- You’re expected to be a cookie-cutter employee with no voice. If you ask questions, show initiative, or express concerns, you risk “rubbing management the wrong way”. - Dave Prior, the regional, handles feedback and staff communication extremely poorly. Concerns he claimed were “ongoing” were never communicated once during my time there. - Termination was handled in a way that felt abrupt, avoidable, and unprofessional. I was taken outside at the end of my shift, sat on the side of a curb with no warning and no option for a support person. - Zero real coaching or development despite being told the role would be supportive and growth-focused. - Expectations are unclear, constantly shifting, and never explained directly to staff. - Leadership culture relies on assumptions instead of communication, and it creates a tense environment where staff feel scared to speak up. - What you’re promised in the interview does not match the reality once you start.
