I worked with North Gate over the summer for 4 months as a paid summer intern. My summer internship experience with them was everything I could have asked for. I was given hands on paid training, I was treated with respect, given multiple responsibilities and opportunities, and met some amazing people and created those long-term bonds.
As a communications major I didn't know where I would take my career path, but learning sales and marketing at North Gate gave me the confidence to make some great choices with my classes. I was able to learn:
1. Sales techniques and marketing strategies
2. Territory management
3. Salesforce training
4. Recruitment and development of new employees
5. Public speaking
6. Small team management
7. Client relationship building and new client acquisition
8. Networking and travel
9. Maintaining relationships with a large team
10. The importance of work life balance

Working at a "start up" company it's always a little nerve wracking what you will be getting into. Their business practices can be considered "unconventional" for some. For example we worked later hours from 11-7 Monday thru Friday. There are no assigned desks or cubicles, everything is very collaborative and open. Personal development of yourself and others is always encouraged so hanging out outside the office and strengthening those relationships with your team was huge. And having a great attitude and being down for whatever- things are always changing and moving so you never get bored or complacent in the office.
