Vantaggi

Great projects. Perfect for recent graduates. A lot of opportunities to learn about lighting. If you love lighting design and do not mind micro management this place is for you. You will work with the top architects and will expand your network.

Svantaggi

Long hours without paid overtime. Tremendous turnaround. Relentless firing. The senior project manager was fired on the spot after working for the company for 11 years and right after having a baby. Bullying from principles. Passive aggressive environment. Unprofessional behavior. Expect to be run over by a principal riding his scooter, to be called sissy and to be yelled at a lot. When female employees get into tears in the office they are recommended to attend a seminar on emotional intelligence. Or if you complain that your manager harasses you, they may say: "It is in his culture to communicate with woman this way, since he lived in Dubai."

Thank you for the feedback, of course I am sorry you feel this was your experience during your short time with us. For more than 20 years OVI has always had excellent relationships with former employees. It is sad to see talent go, but we also realize there are other life events that sometimes make it necessary - and it is presumptuous to assume “relentless firing” when we in fact had 2 (mutual) resignations. Many designers around the world have stayed in touch with us from Greece, Korea, India, Taiwan and Thailand, while others have returned to work at OVI. While we offer temporary internships to students and recent graduates, our full-time employees work with us on average for many years and decades. Our work is frequently sought after, and our clients have very high-profile and complex projects - with this opportunity, often come challenges that require both passion and dedication. Our highly skilled team works on international projects around the world, and manage multiple schedules and time zones. For this reason, we are a performance-based studio and designers are salaried professionals rewarded for their contributions, rather than paid at hourly rates to accrue overtime. This also helps us have an excellent life/work balance compared to most of our industry. OVI has paid for training courses for those coming from other backgrounds, such as architecture, without specific lighting knowledge and also supports the pursuit of LEED accreditation and many other professional development opportunities to further enhance each designer’s individual career. As a women-owned business, we do not tolerate the act of bullying or sexism in any way. The cost of health insurance, is a concern for everyone in America, not something specific to our company - each year we review our plan to obtain the best pricing available and also contribute a significant portion to each employees monthly premium. We thank you for your contribution and wish you the best for your future.
