This is a good place to learn for up to six months if you have zero experience. It's a really good place to work in customer service. I'd honestly recommend applying in the support department even if you know how to write code.

OPIE Software is a revolving door for developer talent. I was happy to find any job at first. But when I explored Gainesville more I literally could not find a lower paying software company anywhere in the city. My programmer and DevOps friends thought I was joking when we talked about salary. Finally that convinced me that this low pay was robbing from my future. Strong devs leave because they can do way better. I left so I didn't get trapped. Morale is also low because of unrealistic expectations and low pay. This makes life worse for people that stick with it. Maybe you can live with some of those problems but not all put together. Looks like the CEO got lucky with his early team back in the day and found loyal hackers that got in on the ground floor. This is why you can learn a lot here. But don't plan on being treated as well as them and get out as soon as you can. If possible find a better place instead.

Most of the coworkers are friendly and supportive. Not a lot of ongoing training. Employer covers the majority of cost for insurance. semi-flexible schedules as long as you're getting the work done.

Limited advancement opportunities or unclear promotion paths. Inconsistent leadership, lack of communication, and often feel like you're being micromanaged. Pay not competitive with industry standards. Lack of clear direction and software struggles to keep up with competition, so fielding customer questions and complaints can be difficult to overcome which hurts more when bonus is based on retention and growth rates.
