The pay is terrible, especially considering the expectation upon staff. There is not enough movement in senior store management so you can progress to a point but then there's nowhere to go. Staff cuts have gone too far and now management are stretched too thin trying to do the job of the sales staff as well as their own and being expected to deliver higher and higher standards with less and less man power. As a result management work and average of 5-10hours unpaid overtime every week and don't take proper breaks because if you don't get everything finished your own performance is questioned. There is very much a culture of not questioning authority. Everyone is expected to say yes to everything and handle anything thrown at you or else you are considered negative. Honest feedback is not encouraged unless it's positive. You are expected to always be available and changes shifts at very short notice making it near impossible to have a life or plan other commitments such as childcare. I have worked for the company for well over a decade and year by year have seen staff throughout the company feel less cared for and more demotivated. The one year there was a decent bonus scheme, too many people achieved their targets and the following year it was scrapped.
