Vantaggi
- Freedom level 1000: you're like a lone bald eagle just roaming your designated towns picking off tickets as you learn the land better everyday - In overtime season there's no cap on overtime hours (time and a half pay) -You basically make your own schedule as long as you're in your area during business hours and actually doing your job (they can see everything you do through electronic clues). -Its better than working at Dunkies and the blueprint reading and computer skills are something that you can put on a resume. The luckiest of On Target Locators move on to jobs at real utility companies like National Grid or Columbia Gas (they pay like double or triple On Target salary).
Svantaggi
-The future is bleak for most On Target Locators: the workload and stress increases as time goes by and you're moved to progressively harder areas and given little to no raise accordingly - Getting paid good-decent is based strictly on overtime (time and a half) and paid commuting time in your company hatch back. No overtime = no living wage. I was never there for a winter. -On call. You have to be on call but for a much larger area then your own. Its scary, you're out there at night in town you don't know trying to read prints you don't know while ten workers from various utility companies stand by for you to finish so they can start and then finish. -You should get a sense of this from the other reviews: On Target does not believe in a manageable workload for you or your supervisor. He usually can't do much if you need help. -The road warrior lifestyle gets abrasive at times. You don't see anyone else you know for weeks. You drive around for insane amounts of times and oh.... public bathrooms.
