The technology is very old There is no clear direction given to associates on training, job description, or even day to day tasks. There seems to be this focus on modernizing the technology...while also trying to make constant updates to the old technology that it can’t support. This causes people to spend 50-60 hours a week trying to add something to a site that can’t support it, and then being told they also need to spend time modernizing and training on new technology. It’s just not feasible. Business people with no technology background have way to much say in what technology is used and how. Which leads to misuse and misunderstanding of what can be done and how long it will take But all of that is small compared to the biggest issue. And that is leadership. I liked my leaders, they were all great people. But they refused to take criticism or any type of feedback. They refused to change. And most of the time refused to even listen. When I left I was told I would have several meetings with different people to get my perspective. I had 0 meetings those last two weeks. No one wants to hear what’s wrong, no one wants to hear why they are hemorrhaging associates, no one wants to do things differently. I couldn’t in good faith recommend anyone work here unless you’re starting your career and plan on leaving.

It is great to hear about your experience with our associates, their helpfulness and collaboration within the division. We continue to share our strategic plan, cascading goals, execution and performance updates monthly on our IT Associate Portal. Part of our ongoing planning process is to assess business priorities and associated technology modernization efforts. Roadmaps are developed, risks are assessed, and financials are taken into consideration to align with our enterprise guidelines. This has also been a year of significant growth at OneAmerica which has resulted in IT headcount addition that is intended to reduce the longer hours associates have been working. We continue to spend time identifying and developing our leaders. Many are phenomenal, but all leaders have opportunities for additional growth. Not reaching out to spend time with you during your last two weeks was a missed opportunity, and if you are still willing, we would appreciate a chance to make that right. Also, if you have not already received it, you will have the option to complete an anonymous exit interview survey.

The best part of OneAmerica are the people! The individual contributors I worked with are some of the smartest people I've met and they made it a joy to go to work every day. The office spaces are comfortable. Good benefits and a pension. I loved working for OneAmerica.

Constant organizational change and instability. Most recently, they’re going through a “transformation”, which led to phases of eliminations a couple times a year. Restructuring happens, it's part of business, but the way this was handled was really poor. Leadership let us know that they hired consultants and that changes were coming months in advance, which led to apprehensive employees. They then spread the layoffs out over several months, keeping people on edge. The culture of fear this decision caused will take years to repair, with the culture taking a significant hit.
