Svantaggi
Prior CEO (Doug Wirges) was beyond exceptional and truly continued the legacy of Parr Lumber being a great family-oriented company to work with. Current CEO (Mike Howell), although pleasant to interact with, has completely ruined any pleasure in working for this company and truly sold out it's values in the name of profit. This holds town halls with yard employees and yearly "anonymous" online feedback of management, although this is hardly ever anonymous, but never changes any policies or the workplace environment after reviewing employee input. I would say that any position higher than a yard manager is completely out of touch with the daily responsibilities of any yard/store/sales employee and never shows an interest in knowing more. Even corporate leadership that started at the bottom of the company hierarchy no longer have the mentality that taking care of your employees is equivalent to taking care of the business. Happy employees often means more profit. Parr reduces head count in the name of the necessity to protect their assets and halt expenditures. while also creating more non-sensical upper-level management positions and increasing the salaries of those at the top already earning well beyond the services that they actually provide. Many positions that have no true benefits to the company or its bottom line. Just like every other greedy corporate company, they find new ways to put more stress and unnecessary strain on hourly employees while padding the pockets of upper management who conduct most business from the golf course. The district sales and district yard managers are incredibly awful to the employees, often creating hostile work environments with retaliation directly from the managers themselves. The employees in HR, including the head, had no prior HR experience prior to being employed at Parr and are often found to be noncompliant to confidentiality information regarding employee records, proper reporting standards to the correct authority, including contacting management directly involved in complaints without any sort of official investigation, without the employee's knowledge or consent and without holding management accountable for Parr's no-retaliation policy. If you decide to work for Parr, my biggest advice is to no do so at any entry level position. Mike Howell has created an environment where they no longer commit to hiring/promoting within the company and is consistently hiring outside candidates over qualified current employees that have been with the company for years, even decades. Unless you are hired at the top level of this company, there is no logical reason to apply. I have story after story of promotions being filled based on someone's personality (one incident based specifically on a persons "bubbly personality"-direct quote) or connection to the hiring manager over a person's knowledge and experience with the business, even a person that is well-liked and respected by their peers and those that they manage under them. This is not a merit, equal opportunity company, which isn't surprising based on their political affiliations and opposition to DEI. I can give you 20+ specific examples of the mistreatment of hourly and lower salaried employees. I have a verified example of an employee being terminated because they put a customer, who had been mistreated by Parr for over a year, in front of the "good" of the company and in the process, unintentionally "embarrassed" their sales manager, who was exposed for having a consistently full voicemail system and the habitual tendency to never answer their phone, regardless of availability to do so, resulting in not allowing the customer to receive help from the person with authority to do so. Parr prioritizes nepotism, the success of male employees, the "the good ol' boys club" as they identify themselves as and the constant need to choose greed over an enjoyable or even tolerable employee workplace. There is not enough money in that company that they could offer me to ever work there again. They put themselves in competition with BFS, but Parr is not a threat to anyone except its own employees. Again, run. It will never be worth it.
