There is indeed one founder, who "runs" the company, however there are many who "operate it" at any given time. Depending on where the new hire gets assigned, the interraction and direct report may differ. There is more than one person. Regarding training, our firm like other boutique agencies, prefer on-the-job training as the best way to learn the ropes. We know there is limited experience during their college years and what experience they do have we are excited for them to apply to their growth. The employees who do that, soar at the firm and in their career, learning quickly on the job, and benefit from not having to wait 4 years or longer for a promotion. The employees get to do exciting, front line strategy and projects from the day they are hired, and as a result are responsible for ownership of those projects as well. They get to put what college eduation and internships they have to good use. That said, the career choice, can sometimes be all consuming. We try to explain that to candidates from day one. We are very sorry this employee desired more out of the company than it offered, and that it was a less than happy experience. We absolutely DO care very much about every single person who comes through the doors. It breaks the founder's heart to have to terminate an employee, or when someone resigns. Sometimes it isn't a fit, and we hope that you find the position and the company that best suits your needs.
