Vantaggi
I am a reserve flight attendant at psa airlines. The people here are absolutely amazing. Its a very fast growing company, adding new planes each month and opening a new base in Cincinnati. With that comes lots of job openings for flight attendants and pilots. Reserve with other companies can last years where as the average reserve period for flight attendants at PSA is currently about 6 months.
Svantaggi
The pay is not up to par. Looking at it from an hourly stand point it can look promising to someone unfamiliar with the airline industry. But you only get paid hourly while the aircraft door is closed. What does that mean??? >>> yes, your preflight (aircraft inspection) thats unpaid work. Boarding and deboarding also unpaid. So while you have 2 and 3 hour sits before your next flight you get to look forward to making your per diem which is aproximently $1.80 and hour. granted you get it on a 24 hour basis from show time till the end of your trip. Pier diem does add up if you are flying a lot , but when you're a reserve flight attendant you may or may not fly. You do have a garuanteed 72 hours pay but if you don't fly you don't get peir diem. I went my whole first month of reserve with only flying 10 hours. Yea you can say that months paycheck was heartbreaking. If you're lucky enough to have family help you through reserve like I am then maybe its worth it in the long run. Hints why people say give it atleast 6 months. because after reserve it gets better. The truth is though some people arn't so lucky and to be honest if you have a car payment, rent, and other monthly bills your paycheck is probably gone before it ever hits your account if you know what I mean. as for me I've almost made it through the reserve life and I'm looking forward to seeing the light at the end of the tunel... I'll add another update once I am a line holder. All in all its a fun job but that doesn't pay the bills.
