Thank you for taking the time to share your experience.
It is upsetting to hear that your experience of working with some at PaperCut, myself especially, has been so frustrating for you. My goal has always been for PaperCut to be a place where everyone feels like their voice is heard, 'anyone can talk to anyone' (one of our 5 core principles) and where people can learn, grow and have opportunities across many areas of the business. So, I sincerely apologise for the fact that you feel that your success is solely determined by your agreeability with others.
I certainly plan to reflect on the comments that you've made about me personally and recognise that this may take some time to think over and get to the bottom of.
I will admit that I am very passionate about empowering emerging leaders in PaperCut, and in my efforts to distribute decision making amongst these people, I can see how the perception of “in-groups” can form. I am also saddened to hear that your experience of management is that we come across as "deceitful" and "false". Given the other comments that make up your review I can see how this has become your reality.
I believe that the first step towards resolving these issues starts with understanding how we can create a workplace where everyone feels confident that their opinions and feedback will be genuinely heard. This is particularly important now as we've gone through some large(ish) way-of-working changes with the objective of empowering more PaperCutters to be decision makers. With change comes challenges, and the need for people to be able to express how change impacts them. This is why we've recently kicked off our psychological safety programme and I am looking forward to seeing it mature and uncover some actionable outcomes that will help us. These findings may take time to collate and more time to resolve, however, I firmly believe that we’re heading in the right direction - an environment where all voices can be heard just as much as each other.
Thank you for your contribution over your time at PaperCut. If you’d like to reach out to discuss further, I’d be happy to catch up for a coffee or to chat with you via email. In addition, if you'd prefer to retain your anonymity from me or others more broadly in PaperCut, either Matt or Mark on our advisory board are more than happy to offer their time to hear about your experiences in more depth, so I would encourage you to reach out to them as well.
