One thing that stands out was the opportunity I had to collaborate with some exceptional people at the individual contributor (IC) level. I genuinely enjoyed working alongside these talented professionals and truly learned a lot from them virtually every time we collaborated.

In my time at Paperless, I noticed several concerning issues. There appeared to be a significant level of insecurity and fear in meetings, which hindered open communication. Whenever I voiced my concerns or suggestions, it was clear that others felt the same way, as I'd receive private messages from colleagues thanking me for speaking up. Unfortunately, these concerns rarely led to any meaningful changes. Speaking up during meetings often resulted in feeling judged or looked down upon, creating a discouraging atmosphere for open discussion. Additionally, providing accurate estimates for work was most always met with negative reactions from those who appeared to glorify long working hours. Moreover, the company seemed to prioritize work above all else, which can be challenging for those with commitments outside of work. It was apparent that the primary focus was on ensuring investor return, not on individual growth or happiness.

While we do have a focus on investors and supporting our growth, our team members being effective is equally as important. We see company success and employee engagement as essential to each other. We solve a highly impactful problem in a really cool industry that is critical to the success of our country. It is really exciting to work here, and we have a solution that knocks people's socks off. Our executive team deeply cares and is very transparent. If you are a go-getter and willing to roll up your sleeves, you can be very successful here. There is a lot of flexibility in the sales organization regarding how you balance and manage your time if you are hitting your number. We have all the tools we need to be successful, including some of the top sales productivity tools such as Gong, ZoomInfo, and more.

This is not a company where you can clock in and out of a 9-5. The entire company culture is all about being gritty and figuring out problems proactively. It's expected that everyone is highly productive, which allows us to scale with a lean and mean team. Not the right fit for many people in that regard. It's a complicated solution to sell and involves a deep understanding of the industry. The personas we sell to are also difficult (think old-school, salt of the earth, blue-collar workers). This can be challenging for folks to ramp quickly, as we are not yet a mature enough company to have very robust training and enablement for new hires.
