The vision is incredible. If this company had any chance of delivering the half product they say they are going to it would be an incredible success.

I am going to share an anecdote because I think it describes the culture of working here so well: Troy (the ceo) was going to go to a conference so he called an all hands meeting at 9am so he could attend the meeting before departing for the conference. Everyone at the company was at work at 9 except Troy. We sent him various forms of communication, but no one heard from him until 1pm when he texted me while he was driving to ask me (an engineer) to help him finalize his travel arrangements. Meanwhile at around noon we decided to have the meeting anyway. Troy was furious that we had done it without him. A total lack of consideration for other people's time and aggressive behavior when the outcome was not what he planed were daily realities while working at passive logic. Unfortunately Troy has every quality you don't want in a leader. He micro manages and he will not respect your time or skills. I and many of my coworkers had several financial and experiential agreements that troy did not honour. On top of all that, he keeps very strange hours, and expects you to change your life to be at the office in the middle of the night while he is there. If the investors take control of this company I will definitely consider going back, but in the meantime it is a terrible place to work.

As CEO, I thought I’d personally respond to this review. I think for anyone looking at an early stage startup, there are a few things brought up in this review you may want to reflect on. This response relates to our blog series on building authentic startup culture and individual contributor growth (see our blog) Startups are the pro-sports of the tech world, especially at the very early stage this review refers to (5 employees, pre-funding, 5 years ago, etc.). Every contributor is required to be more, do more, expand their skills, pitch in, and do it all with minimal support. Startups are not for everybody! Helping each other out is key to the success (and future) of any early stage startup. Empathy towards each contributor is key. Growing a company requires that I put my all in, including working unusual hours because I’m mentoring team members after hours, on calls with partners in time zones around the world, or taking on my own individual contributor role early or late in the day. In my experience with my startup leader peers, this “all in” approach is a requirement, and I appreciate my team members who demonstrate empathy to the huge lift leadership is juggling in multiple dimensions that others might not even be fully aware of. So if I’m juggling 26 things, an engineer might pitch in by arranging travel. It’s what we do. What anyone looking at a startup should recognize is that startups are an ultramarathon. I appreciate that this reviewer chose to run with us for a couple miles early on. The rest of the team has committed to the whole journey. It’s important to recognize that to win the race means finishing the race. Being a good sport means congratulating the finishers even when you decided to leave the race early. Not only has PassiveLogic followed through on all of its commitments, but the largest startup law firm in the country noted PassiveLogic’s employee agreements have been objectively the most pro-employee they’ve seen in their 40 years of doing business. -Troy

This is one of the most unique professional experiences I’ve had. The company was built around a very ambitious vision for physical AI, autonomy, and real-world systems. I came to work here for Troy Harvey's vision and principled approach to design. It was inspiring to work with him, and the mission drove me to work hard to achieve amazing things. I hope to continue to work with him in the future. What stood out most was the ability to connect hardware, software, AI, product, and customer value into one coherent direction. That kind of systems-level genius is rare. And his type of leadership uniquely collaborative leadership hard to come by. The work was meaningful because it felt like we were building something genuinely new, and we were doing it together as a team with a set of focused goals. The best part of the culture was the exposure to big ideas and high expectations. If you wanted to grow, learn, and be challenged, there was a lot of opportunity.

The pace and expectations are intense. Communication could sometimes move quickly if you aren't paying attention because the company and the ideas were operating at a high level of complexity.
