Working at Paychex was a daily struggle. Processes were inconsistent, systems outdated, and leadership - especially at the DSM level - was unreliable. My manager frequently moved meetings or skipped them entirely, rarely listened, and made promises she had no intention of keeping. For a company that sells HR solutions, the internal experience was anything but supportive. Training was minimal, direction was unclear, and the tools we used felt like they hadn’t been updated since 2009. There’s a major disconnect between leadership and the evolving workforce. Cross-functional processes were inconsistent, unclear, and constantly changing based on who you asked. There was no alignment between teams, making it frustrating and inefficient to get anything done. Somehow, no one seemed to have answers to any questions asked. I wouldn’t recommend this company to anyone looking for strong leadership, innovation, or growth.

Paychex is a great company to work for. I’ve held multiple roles over 20+ years. There are always ups and downs, but for every position, manager, decision I disagree with, there are ten others that are outstanding.

It’s a large company with many opportunities to grow, but smaller companies may offer higher compensation.

Remote work and Flexible Time Off

Low pay. Minimal to no career growth. Constant leadership turnover. Conflicting priorities from the top with little strategic direction. Endless “do more with less” mentality and burnout. Mandatory culture and positivity “training” instead of fixing the problems creating poor culture. The company has become reactive, chaotic, and disconnected from the employees who keep it running. Current CEO drove down stock price and eradicated worker morale. Terrible leadership.
