Vantaggi

If you want to become a teacher, work in a classroom, or just be around kids in general, Peer Power is a great stepping stone into doing that. So long as you meet their minimum hours of work a week, they're very flexible and willing to work with you regarding your schedule. Having been working for 20 years in the industry in Memphis, they've learned a thing or two, and definitely have some tricks and tips for teaching education. Pay is better than on-campus jobs for University of Memphis students. And, of course, making an impact in the lives of students is always a plus. Lama and Dr. Sara Benson are great.

Svantaggi

Working in the actual classroom was fine. Favoritism, belittling, and disorganization were the words on my mind the second one steps out of the classroom and into the clutches of the Foundation. It is very hard to have your voice heard, honored, and respected in this organization, unless you work in upper management. This extends from the Program Directors all the way up to the CEO himself. The Success Coaches play an important and crucial role, and therefore must conduct themself in a professional and dignified manner is the vibe that the Foundation goes for. However, in the same heartbeat, they want to bark orders and have you blindly follow. Anything outside of that is seen as subordination and can be escalated quickly if not handled to their standards. And there is blatant and absolute favoritism among staff towards certain Success Coaches, particularly those who work the ACT programming. If you are not a fan of being micromanaged, especially during the off season when you are NOT in the classroom, this role is not the one for you. This job expects to give you all the responsibilities required of an "adult" job, while giving you none of the respect that comes with working an "adult" job. The Foundation is super disorganized as well. Plans were sent out with very little anticipation, and the expectation was for you to be there, regardless of how little anticipation they had given. Also, they are not afraid to fire you, either directly or by quiet firing you. During the span of two months, I saw two of my colleagues who worked at the same sister schools as I did be quiet fired, where the Foundation ceased to communicate with them for an unspecified amount of time, and neither allowed them to work nor provided updates as to when they could return to work. I had little contact outside of my sister schools, so I don't know who else they might have done this to. Finally, the entire organization feels a little culty. They revere the Founder and current CEO with almost religious reverence, and absolutely sprinkled religion indirectly throughout the time I worked there.
