Vantaggi
- You'll work with some amazing and cool people. Honestly, every barista they hire is hella fun and interesting. Great mix of people from different backgrounds, different types of people, etc. - The pay is so-so but the tips are decent depending on when you work - free coffee from any store as long as you bring your own cup, and 30% discount on everything else - The flexible hours are pretty good. If you have a decent manager who knows how to schedule you might be able to work the exact shifts you want. Also great for a student, they really know how to work around busy peoples' schedules.
Svantaggi
- I've worked at a variety of different stores for Philz, and the management is pretty hit or miss. There are some stellar managers and there are some really, REALLY bad ones. My current one is awkwardly racist and inappropriate...so that's fun. They also love poaching management from starbucks so if you're into that i guess that's a plus. it's a - for me. - At one time, if you started as a barista you could really move up the ranks and eventually be a manager if you worked your butt off. those days have passed. I've been here a year and seen so many incredibly qualified people (one person with a BA in business admin) who were shift leads and wanted to be managers, they were passed up for out-of-house hires. - The pay is not bad but you really work your butt off for every dollar you make if you work at one of the busy stores.
