This place has a serious issue with communication. We mostly learn about company developments via reporting from other news outlets like Puck and Breaker. In the rare instance management decides to interact with you, you never know where an announcement is coming from, whether it’s an obscure slack channel or a town hall webinar that no one has time to watch.
It’s also not secret that politico is struggling financially. Salaries have always been under market and we’re constantly being told there’s no money in the budget. We’re very understaffed but we’re not allowed to extend a job offer for an entry-level position without the CEO vetting them first (serious micromanagement).
The turnover rate is INSANE, which speaks volumes about the leadership team. Many and I mean MANY new hires leave a few weeks in after seeing the dysfunction and favoritism that is rife. If anyone sticks around for longer than 3 years, it’s because they can’t get a job anywhere else.
Make sure to watch your back because management fosters a highly toxic work environment and allows abusive people to remain on staff. Bad people keep being rewarded and we keep losing really good people because of it.
