Vantaggi

I've been with PGE for many years and this has been my favorite employer over a long career. I've appreciate the emphasis on working in accordance with the company's Guiding Behaviors, which I believe have significantly impacted the culture in a positive way. I feel valued and have had opportunities to hold various positions to give me a very well rounded understanding of our business. I find that, with some exceptions, employees are valued and feel respected. The company is also supportive of employees exploring new opportunities to learn and grow. I've not seen this supported so strongly at other companies in the past and appreciate how it creates a business where so many have a broad understanding of our business. We have had a number of years with significant change in our industry, and it's created great learning and career opportunities. It's been fun!

Svantaggi

The company used to have many officers who were promoted from within and understood the company culture. This is no longer the case. All of our current officers are from outside PGE, and their decisions seem to more and more frequently clash with cultural norms and expectations. I would like to see senior leadership take the time to understand our culture and consider that in their decision making, making informed decisions about how to manage change while considering employee expectations and needs. In addition to my technical background, I have a strong background in organizational development an change management and have seen cultural change managed extremely well earlier in my career. I participated in managing organizational change and culture during times of great change to maintain cultural alignment with strategic goals. I do not see understanding or level of effort here. In an effort to reduce costs for our customers, we have been in a time of significant cost reductions. Layoffs last year were a shock to the organization, and it appeared that those impacted were not always treated with the respect they deserved. Communication around this reduction was scant, leaving employees to make their own assumptions about what happened. Similarly, many decisions at the officer level are announced without enough information to help employees understand the strategy behind the change and how it will impact them. Early in my tenure at PGE, I would see the officers almost daily. They would take the time to engage with employees, but I do not see this today. We rarely see officers. They rarely walk the halls or visit our satellite locations. There is far more telling than listening. Fortunately, our new direct officer has increased his efforts in this regard, is quite approachable, and I appreciate it. In the past few years, benefits have been reduced. My out of pocket medical expenses frequently exceed the out-of-pocket maximum of $6k, and have been as high as $25k due to exceptions in our health policy. HR has not been interested in hearing feedback on this benefit option. There have been many benefit take-aways, or reductions as well. It adds up and makes the package less attractive than in the past. Finally, I feel that I must mention that PGE is sometimes kind to a fault. We've had employees that management has long known to be significant poor performers, but no action is taken. The impact of these individuals on those who pick of the slack can be huge. Performance needs to be managed!

Thank you for sharing such a thoughtful and candid review. We’re grateful for your many years of service and for the perspective you bring on our culture, guiding behaviors, and commitment to learning and growth. Your feedback on leadership visibility, change management, communication, benefits, and workload is important, and we hear your call for greater transparency, connection, and sustainable expectations. These insights are being shared with senior leaders as we continue to evolve, and we appreciate the care you bring to our organization and its people. To address this feedback, a core group of engaged employees from across the organization recently came together to focus on three key themes, including trust in leadership. In addition, officers have developed action plans to increase visibility and strengthen connection with employees. More updates will be shared soon on our employee intranet. We appreciate the feedback and would welcome the opportunity to better understand your perspective and any suggestions you may have. If you’re open to continuing the conversation, you’re welcome to reach out through our employee support channels or our confidential reporting options. Our EthicsPoint hotline and website are available 24/7 and managed by a third party. -Sequoia

Vantaggi

The benefits at PGE are wonderful. 401k Match, a healthy amount of PTO, health support, and the pay is top notch.

Svantaggi

There is a toxic culture being spread in Human Resources right now. There is a lack of fairness and trust being displayed by senior leadership. Most don't feel trusted to do their jobs as they constantly feel watched and monitored. There is a view of favoritism happening and it's noticed by many, observing the lack of flexibility around work life balance, hours and child/elder care responsibilities. There are many out on a leave of absence due to these stressors affecting people who were once healthy excited workers. You can see on their faces how people's health is taking a toll. SLT talks about how your mental and physical health is important, but it feels more like a liability. And in the end, there are overall feelings of if you leave, it's totally okay because they'll just replace you with someone they know. And they don't seem to care.
