Vantaggi
Remote work, good benefits, PTO
Svantaggi
-There have been 4-6 (not sure) big layoffs that I know of due to mismanagement
-There are a few close-knit, like-minded friends at the top of the company, often reality or listening to others seems clouded by their belief in each other/insular thought
-Mixture of truly talented and hardworking people with managers who speak manager and don't know much about the work their team does, but keep their own bosses happy
-Tons of restructuring, shifting, and layoffs as they figure themselves out
-From my perspective, moved from passionate about learners and wanting to improve to thinking how to leverage esa to keep afloat as a product, regardless of real experiences of learners. All talk became about product and bottom lines and many positions there to support learners, families, and guides were eliminated
-Focus sometimes seems to be more on feel-good company speak than work that supports learners
-Cult-like belief in foregoing educational goals/vision and promises of approach lead to ignoring real behavioral and academic needs. I noticed the people at the top don't rely on the education given at microschools or only student interest and supplement a lot for their own children while preaching it to parents who don't understand the model requirements supplementation and parental input to a great degree (not a bad thing, I just don't think it's communicated well to families who think it is the same as a school and that trained professionals will alert them to gaps or problems
-There seems to be an ongoing miscommunication with guides that the philosophy and values (which I agree with) mean there can never be any guidance, support, modeling, or boundaries with kids because they mistake autonomy and student-led support for permissiveness and anarchy.
-Guides don't have training and support so many are teaching to the least of student abilities or relying only on fun and experiential activities while avoiding any learning activities that might be daunting at first
-Distinct discomfort with DEI or diversity in leadership in the company. DEI was shifted to be as palatable to a mostly affluent white company as possible
-Confusing structure and leadership led to a lot of people in roles they may not have been qualified for/a lot of people in jobs because they were friends with others but didn't necessarily have the required skill set
I believe they are good people with a positive original vision, but this company got so murky. I originally mistook it as having a nonprofit like mission because there is so much passion for the model and shifting education, but I think it also either always was or shifted to the goal of keeping those at the top making money first and foremost, no matter how the vision shifts
-overworking is common for some staff due to the nonprofit energy and passion
-leadership lacks clarity and continuity. Saw several teams and departments struggle with knowing exactly what leadership wanted due to this
