R. J. Corman Railroad Group

Azienda coinvolta

The only reason to take a job at R.J. Corman is to pile money in their 100% matching 401k plan. - Recensione dipendente - Dipendente anonimo presso R. J. Corman Railroad Group

Vantaggi

401k plan is matched 100% dollar for dollar. No other pros...NONE!

Svantaggi

The company is run with an iron fist. Upper management are mostly rejects from real railroads. Class 1 railroads won't hire these people anymore because they are failures, so they come to RJC . Every person at the Manager level is scared to death of upper management and will follow through with any directive given without asking a single question even if the directive is against RJC policy, FRA regulations, or the law. RJC is a construction company first...and they are hacks at best. The actual shortline divisions are basically " toy train sets" for the upper management to play with. They put zero money into the infrastructure unless its being matched by government. They seem to take care of the divisions and employees that are close to corporate headquarters in Kentucky. All the buildings are new and shiny with pieces of equipment all painted up nice and pretty and strategically placed so everyone can admire it. It is clear that image is the most important thing at RJC. Everything is painted bright shiny red and the company name is plastered all over anything they own. Most of the equipment outside of the state of Kentucky is all junk, unsafe, worn out and falling apart, but it has the prettiest red paint you have ever seen. When Craig King was appointed CEO we were excited and hoping that this former railroader would come in, take a look around and start making changes......umm nope. As a matter of fact in the time that Craig has been with RJC he never visited our location once. I think a certain level of management is keeping him away because this place is in shambles. The entrance roads into the yard and office is full of pot holes and slowly tearing and beating our vehicles apart. All the buildings are run down and falling apart. None of them are painted red and there is ZERO signage in place. I think if Mr King would see this place he would be very confused as to why it looks like it does. When workers from Kentucky come into town to assist us they can't believe how run down and old everything is.

Vantaggi

Most people are nice to work with and genuinely good people which provided me a lot of personal growth opportunity. Great cafeteria food and gym provided to Nicholasville employees. 100% 401K Match, but long vesting period. Company has diversified income streams and definitely is a stable employer. Mass layoffs are pretty rare and the most recent site closure provided employees options for staying within the company. Hybrid work environment for knowledge workers. A lot of travel (if you like travel).

Svantaggi

Low pay and benefits. You start at 1 week of PTO, and it doesn't increase until after your 5th year. No sick time. Stressful work-life balance with a lot of short notice travel and 24/7/365 on-call expectations. Limited potential for progression within the company due to long tenures and mismanagement. Budget is wasteful and used toward unnecessary hard assets over people. Bureaucracy often used as an excuse instead of just getting things done. You will be fired upon giving your two weeks notice.
