The boss. President Greg Johnson is a micromanager in every sense. He wants to know what you are doing today, right now, and why you aren't working on something else. The company hired a sales and marketing team over the summer to expand the company's opportunities. As of February, all three are gone. One quit, two fired. He demonstrated no knowledge of basic corporate marketing practices, and showed clear disdain for people who were very clearly just trying to do the job they had been doing for years at other companies. Rather than trying to learn, being open to new experiences or approaches, he applies his engineering-based approach to everything. If it doesn't fit, he will berate you and question you until you acquiesce, or quit. Just about every month, someone is fired. You never know who. People who have been hired are later subject to unrealistic expectations, or not doing the work they were hired to do.
The president is involved in everything in the company. You aren't left alone to do your work. The company has doubled in the last two years, and Mr. Johnson clearly cannot handle the extra responsibility or extra people. He is condescending, rude and/or hostile to his employees. Mr. Johnson clearly has his favorites, and they are the people who do what he says. He promotes them, deserving or not. Upper management that disagrees with him have returned to non-management positions simply because they are tired of dealing with him. I would normally say "if you can work here without dealing with Mr. Johnson, you'll be ok" but that is simply not possible. I do not know how HR or Mr. Johnson can continue to interview people in good conscience given the toxic culture he has created. Stay away.
