Candidate experience lacked flexibility and support during critical stage. My experience became challenging during the later stages of the recruitment process, particularly around reference checks and timelines. I was being progressed for a senior IT role and was asked to provide professional references within a tight timeframe. While I made genuine efforts to coordinate these, I found there was limited flexibility or understanding of the practical realities involved in reaching multiple former employers and senior stakeholders within a short period. The process at this stage felt more focused on strict timelines than on working collaboratively with the candidate to find practical solutions. As a result, my candidacy was ultimately not progressed. What stood out afterwards was that, within a few days through another recruitment agency, I was able to successfully complete four professional reference checks without difficulty and secure a Senior IT Systems Engineer role with a multinational technology company. This highlighted for me that the challenge was not the availability of references, but the approach taken to managing the process.
