The work life balance was horrible. To give some insight I had originally turned the job down but the director over the department begged me to come and was willing to do whatever for me to come so I looked at that like a good thing. I was definitely wrong! My managers would expect me to stay late hours I’m talking about 7pm to finish petty projects (things they didn’t feel like doing) they would throw at me to do, which eventually wasn’t going to work for me being that I’m a single mom. Mind you I was an administrative assistant but I felt like I was their do girl instead. One instance on a Friday the director of the department waits till it’s almost time to go and tells me they needed me to scan and email these documents to their email. Well the documents were their and families medical receipts and receipts from when they went grocery shopping etc. something that had nothing to do with the job. Of course I did what was asked but when I get back to work the following Monday the person complained about how I scanned in the paperwork. I also had a manager who was the biggest micromanager ever. They would have do a daily tracker where I would put in the task I did for the day and how long it took me to do it. God forbid it didn’t equate to a full 8 hours this person would pull me to a meeting every time and ask me what did I do for the hours not worked. Normal people do not work a full eight hours every day but he expected me to not taking in to fact the lunch hour I was granted as well as maybe I just might have needed a mental break. The icing on the cake though was when a family member of mine passed away and I told them that I would be out of town for a few days and my manager goes on to tell me that he would have to consult with the rest of the team because they might still be expecting me to be at work. After that I realized these selfish individuals only cared about themselves and that was my cue to run. My department also had a high turnover rate including a manager who had been there for over ten years. I was there for literally five months and the whole time there I was coming up with a plan to get away from that environment.

-Special Projects was previously known for a strong, positive culture, which has steadily deteriorated due to ineffective leadership at both the departmental and executive levels. -The department is led by manager(s) who lack formal project management experience and certifications (e.g., PMP). Industry-standard project management practices are not followed, -There is a strict daily in-office requirement, pervasive micromanagement, and limited trust in employees. Favoritism is evident in management decisions. -Management prioritizes serving executive-level metrics over engaging employees, understanding their strengths, or aligning individual interests and skills to projects. -Employees are required to complete three weeks of in-store training, including third/night shifts, which can be uncomfortable and is not aligned with the role’s job description. -The interview process is excessively long and inefficient -Management demonstrates minimal accountability, with issues persisting unresolved over time. -Attendance at conferences and professional development opportunities is not encouraged broadly and is instead limited to select individuals and managers. -Leadership is effectively protected by HR, resulting in little to no meaningful organizational change despite ongoing issues. -Overall employees and stakeholders are constantly frustrated and treat everything like an urgency when not qualified to be one -Getting answers from people to move projects is challenging due to lack of resources and current employees busy with BAU work -Lots of political drama -No boundaries of receiving late night messages from management
