Vantaggi

Raconteur has actually been one of the best companies I've ever worked for. As an employee I felt taken care of, the company provides Vitality healthcare (which has awesome perks such as 50% off gyms), they have monthly anonymous Peakon surveys which evaluate how employees feel at the business and take on suggestions for improvement, for the majority of my employment we also had Learnerbly where we had £300/year to spend on career development (in my opinion this is probably the best career development platform I've seen and I've bought so many amazing books about business from here) - Learnerbly has been put on pause at the moment, but I believe may be reintroduced in the future. The Campaign Manager role itself was a role I fell in love with. In a nutshell, I project managed the special reports which are published in the centre of The Times newspapers. These are read by a high networth audience which are predominantly senior business leaders and business decision makers. The role does have a big focus on sales, to make the reports profitable, finance all the work that goes into it from the team/journalists/etc and to gain personal commission. This is uncapped and the more commission you make the the higher the commission % jump. I gained commission every time I completed a report (approx every 2 months) and gained between £2k-£9k per report (this can be less or more but it really depends on how much you manage to finance the report). To work at Raconteur in general, I'd say that the best suited person to the culture is someone who is a genuinely nice & friendly person, is super happy to help out their peers if needed and ask for help, cares about the success of the company equally to their own, is eager to learn and adapt. When I first joined, there was a running joke that there's a no a-holes hiring policy, which I think is a brilliant way to build a healthy working culture (I wish more companies had this). Also, as someone not from the UK, I was really happy with the massive lack of discrimination I experienced, this has not always been the case for me at previous companies. I'd say that the campaign manager role is best suited for someone who is really organised, has a positive/glass-half-full mentality, money motivated, proactive, can work collaboratively as well as alone when needed, enjoys a rewarding challenge and takes a lot of pride in their work. No one at Raconteur recommends working overtime or on weekends, however I was happy to do so as I take a lot of pride in my work and genuinely didn't mind taking a call at 6:30pm to speak with a potential client in Australia for example, or prepare outreach for the next day. For full transparency, I personally would recommend being open to also working out of hours, to ensure constant success for this role. At the end of the day, it was my name that would feature in the special report and my potential commission to take home. Also the company was restructuring as I left, so the workload may look different to how it did while I was here. When joining, there's an intensive training period. This is unparalleled to any training I've ever done previously, in the best way. The best thing you can do is sit there, listen and contribute where you're comfortable/prompted. I got to ask all my silly questions without judgement and almost everyone has been a campaign manager at some point (even the CEO) so everyone knows what the journey is like. This training means that it doesn't matter how much sales or similar experience you've done in the past, with some practice anyone (with the aforementioned characteristics especially) can 100% be excellent in this role. However for people with similar sales experience, there's definitely more value to gain from the training and on-the-job experience as Rac is full of really clever people and there's always something new and interesting to learn. This is my personal opinion of course. I genuinely feel like I've gained so much valuable knowledge from this role about the world of work and people, that I use this knowledge in my daily life too and feel like I've grown as a person and professionally. Although my plan was to stay at Raconteur, personal circumstances changed so I had to move away. I'd definitely recommend working here if you're looking for somewhere to stay loyal to, long-term, where you'll be surrounded by lovely people and meaningful work, but most of people who have succeeded in this company and moved to somewhere else now work for huge names like Google, Multiverse, Gartner, Financial Times, etc. I think that I've mentioned a few times about the people being lovely. I feel like I've made some genuine friends here. It makes coming into the office something to look forward to, and something I really love about Raconteur is how easy it is to speak with the senior leadership team and how keen they are to listen to our views. They're really friendly yet professional, so knowledgeable about the industry and the work we do and if asked theyre super happy to do 1-1s and provide personal feedback. Also, I truly have felt like I can be myself around them and really honest as they show me that they are also honest with us and this is valued both ways. Appreciating that the company has been through some turbulence recently, the entire publishing industry has also taken a hit since the recession. Nonetheless, current trends are showing that things are getting better and Raconteur is absolutely a resilient company creating fantastic content which is highly influential to senior business leaders, holding a very powerful position in the B2B world. I have always felt seen, recognised and rewarded for my achievements here, which is something that has meant so much to me while I've been here. The values of the company are something that we live and breathe by: committing to excellence, raising the bar and that we're better together. As cheesy as it may sound it's the perfect recipe for success and a healthy workplace. Also, the office is so nice, with beanbags, a ping pong table, stocked minifridges in the kitchen with alcoholic and non-alcoholic options, theres some leafy plants and it's all open plan which I like as you can always catch someone thats around if you have a question or want to have a quick chat. It's a breath away from The Gherkin and 120 Rooftop Garden which some of us like to bring our lunch to sometimes on the sunny days

Svantaggi

Towards the end of my time there, Raconteur changed the amount of days in the office to 3, however I believe this has gone back down to 2 since I left.
