During my interview, the interviewer called the person in charge of deployment with regards to my work location right in front of me. He mentioned XXX Condo but they were saying the Council of the condo wanted a Chinese-speaker. So eventually, I was still hired but my work location was to be confirmed. A week later, they confirmed it to be XXX Condo. I thought the Chinese-speaking thing was not an issue anymore. After I worked for a week, they suddenly issued me with a discontinuation notice. Reason given to me was: the Council wanted a Chinese-speaker, and I was the last to join the team so they chose to discontinue me. The company had no other vacancies at other sites. So yes, I worked there for a grand total of 2 weeks because the notice period during probation was 1 week. In these trying times because of Covid, I turned down other job offers and interviews because I secured this job, only to be discontinued for such an unfair reason. It was extremely unprofessional of the Management, since they knew from the start that the Council wanted a Chinese speaker. So they basically wasted my time and caused me to lose multiple other opportunities.
