Vantaggi
The production team are some of the hardest-working and kindest people I’ve ever met. The company makes very nice products.
Svantaggi
The CEO was encouraged to solicit feedback from team members on their job satisfaction. He refused, stating it “would open a can of worms.” He was assured it would feel that way due to long-unaddressed issues, but once gathering feedback and making changes was built into a routine, it would not be so overwhelming. The feedback was not received well and routine job satisfaction surveys were not put in place. When addressing the overall communication structure and health of the company, the CEO stated that he believed there was no way to grade the communication skill of employees because “everyone is bad at communicating.” When employees become overworked or frustrated with working conditions, long hours at peak season, etc., the company will reward the team with a bit of time to relax or enjoy a special treat, or maybe even bump the pay. These are all great things that I encourage. The problem is that many of the issues that cause people to reach levels of frustration, i.e. equipment breaking, disproportionate workloads between team members, lacking managerial direction, etc. often do not get properly addressed and fixed. Due to this, the fun days become a way to keep people just content enough to not push back without having to make the necessary changes for the company and team to truly thrive.
