The administration has its own agenda and doesn't listen to much of the input received from faculty. Like other institutions of higher education, Rice emphasizes status and takes a business approach to running the organization. The result is a marginalization of the Liberal Arts and the associated disciplines. The common view is that those who major in the Humanities or Social Sciences do so because they cannot hack it in engineering. Also, the higher level administrators are obsessed with status and being comparable to the Ivy league schools.
