the pay. You get paid different depending on your age. You can do the same shifts as someone older and they'd get higher pay for it. Wasn't fair at all. When the new tax year started those over 18 or 21 (don't remember) got a pay rise, if your younger you don't qualify, however your expected to do the same level of work.. so made no sense. I started working in River Island when i was 16/17 and i was on 4.65p/h just because of my age, those older were on 6.08/6.15 p/h. I would get roughly 33pound for an 8 hour shift, elders would get 43 pound per 8 hour shift which at the end of the month totals to be about 100 pound or more difference. Also, the skills i learnt VM and management wise.. because i was eager to learn, i learnt several tasks, but then management get complacent and think because you know how to do it, you should do instead of the person whose gets the appropriate salary to do so. So essentially, the tasks looks good on my CV but i was told to do tasks i wasn't getting paid any extra to do. If you say you won't do it, management do remember. Next time you ask for a shift change or extra shifts they remember you as the team member that doesn't always do what they're told regardless of if you didn't just do it because you thought it was unfair. All staff are only entitled to double pay on boxing day, which no one in my store received. I worked at 3 different branches about 2 years back and up until this day I'm still waiting. When problems with pay occur, brace yourself for high levels of stress to get what your owed, despite me still not getting what I'm owed years later. Lol quite an essay i've written, sorry.
