The leadership at Root is in flux with many of company leaders exiting late in 2021 or early 2022 (Product, Engineering, Marketing etc.). This has lead to unclear direction, moving goal posts, and overall lack of progress towards goals that would drive the business in the right direction. For a mid-sized company its really surprising how little the right hand knows what the left hand is doing. A great example of this is Root actively hiring throughout Q4 of 2021 before having to layoff 20% of the global workforce in Jan 2022. Many people worked for the company for a quarter or less.
Generally teams are silo'd off from other areas of the business and processes, documentation, and frameworks are not built, maintained, or mature enough to support a business of the size Root currently is.
