SL Start, when I first started, believed in providing a high standard of care for the clients they supported. They also believed in taking care of their employees. Once the company was purchased by Embassy they put in a leadership group that catered to their investors and the bottom-line versus their clients and employees. Because of this many great and caring employees left and only the "Cream of the Crap" remained. This was hard on those that remained that still wanted to make a difference. Eventually I left because I was tired of spread their empty promises to staff and families and recognized that SL Start and Embassy were no longer about supporting and improving lives but was all about the bottom line. For example; the staff petitioned the State of Washington for a raise in the benchmark rate so they could provide better wages to their employees. This eventually passed and the employees were excited to finally receive a much needed raise for their hard work only to find that SL Start/Embassy used that extra money to cover financial loses with their Healthcare benefits instead of passing the increase onto their employees like they promised. In recent they promised employees raises and bonuses but again used the tired excuse that they needed to cover financial loses with their healthcare benefits. Embassy has two spin doctors working as their Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer who’s propaganda and lies rival that of Joseph Goebbels. How they continue to get away with pumping out false hopes and expect people to remain after the rug is pulled out from under them is beyond me. I am also shocked that the State Of Washington allowed them to operate this long. Recently they failed their State Audit [twice] and killed [neglect] a client during this audit process. This, among other deficiencies, caused the State of Washington to decertify SL Start effectively shutting them down. I am dismayed to hear that the State is allowing Embassy to move all of the SL Start clients under another company that is a subsidiary of Embassy called Aacres. I question how this will solve any of the problems since Aacres operates under the same leadership as SL Start [Embassy] and the same Policies and Procedures [Embassy]. I warn all parents, guardians, loved ones and caregivers that Embassy is not here to care for our States most vulnerable population. They are here to make money on the backs of poor desperate employees, those that are desperate for help and WILL endanger the lives of clients. Anyone can put words on a poster and claim it is a Mission statement but it is the actions of that entity that really shows that they follow and believe in their Mission, Vision and Values. SL Start/Embassy has a great MVV but ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS and they were shut-down by the State. I do not know what more I can say in this review that will make a difference but I hope that after reading this you will really soul search and do your homework before working for Embassy/Aacres or having your loved one supported by them. Please do your homework about this company, talk to the Department of Developmental Disabilities, Residential Care Services about their concerns with this entity and read the online reviews as they are not just disgruntled employees but former employees that are saddened about the actions of Embassy/Aacres/SL Start and want to make sure that others are warned.
