The two best reasons to work at SPI Lasers are: 1) The freedom to step and take responsibility for your own actions / dept. SPI tries to employ proactive people who will help lead and develop the company. If you are looking for a challenge and want to help shape something dynamic and evolutionary then this is a good place to work. If you want constant direction and your hand held, then you are better off looking elsewhere. 2) The people. I have worked in many companies over the years but have never found one where the people are so genuine and warm. The people make SPI what it is; a fun and engaging environment within which to work.

Cons can be levelled at many companies of this size; namely progression opportunities are limited, but then seriously, what are you expecting? If you want massive progression opportunities go and work for someone who employs '000's of people. You will have the progression but I would suggest you will also have massive amounts of procedure and red-tape that will stifle innovation.

SPI Lasers gave me a lot of freedom in the course of my three internships. I was assigned tasks but could carry them out in whichever way I saw fit. In the process, I learnt a great deal about programming and laser physics. My colleagues were very helpful.

Though I enjoyed the freedom I was given, sometimes more direction could have been useful -- my tasks were not always completely clear.
