They're just now learning the price of letting all that institutional knowledge walk out the door: it may shut down their North American operations. North American executives and managers have no - I repeat, no - discretionary budgetary authority. They cannot spend a nickel without Chennai's say-so, and are powerless to adjust salaries, hire personnel, or to invest in sorely needed tools and infrastructure. SPi advertises itself as a technology company, yet runs its business off of Google Docs: a self-proclaimed data-driven company that won't invest in real databases. The list goes on...
