Disregard any review that is prior to 2019 the company is no longer like that. In 2019, Steele changed their work structure. Some independent contractors were offered part-time positions. Others were let go. Overseas contractors remained the same and held on to their outstanding pay. Those offered part-time positions are paid less money for more work. I transitioned from an IC to a part-timer. We were supposed to work four hours up to 29 hours. Anything over that was overtime but because we had to get permission, overtime was nonexistent. I went from making $50 a report, doing about 4-5 reports a day to making an hourly wage and being assigned around 7-8 reports a day. Those 7-8 reports require far more time than the allotted four hours and I had to work off the clock to finish them in the 24-hour turnaround time because overtime is never approved. Not to mention, there were times I had to edit reports. The ICs who make the most money write the worse reports. They do not follow the rules and some are extremely rude when you point out their mistakes but Steele doesn't care. Quantity over quality. The PMs are extremely manipulative. They try to win you over by telling you how good you are at your job which is why they assign you the most cases. Newsflash, that is not a compliment. I rolled my eyes every time my PM told me that because I knew it was a manipulation tactic. Rule of thumb: If they say something nice they want something. Most of the time, they have nothing nice to say and when they do say anything it is about something you did wrong, could do better, or should have done. You will grow to hate your email. You will work Monday thru Sunday, eight to 12 hours a day and only 29 hours of that will be paid. If you tell them you need to decrease your workload due to burnout and excessive work hours, they will do it for about a week and start back to assigning you massive cases called "expedites." Most of the time expedites are cases they forgot to assign. There is a huge amount of favoritism on the teams. I cannot speak for all of them because I've only worked on two but some ICs/part-timers are treated better than others. Do not bother complaining because you will be told that its just Steele's culture. Stay away. As far as you can. If you're looking for a job look elsewhere until they get their act together. The company has completely gone down since they were acquired by another company. The workers are not the only ones noticing the decline in quality, the clients are noticing it too. They will browbeat you until question your life decisions. You will work into the wee hours of the night until your eyes cross. If you do apply and are hired, set clear boundaries and be ready to leave if they cross them. They will cross them and if you say nothing, its an indicator they can keep crossing them and they will. Give them certain hours when they call and make sure they know your time off is off limits or they will text you all evening into the night. I have woken up to texts messages sent at 10 and 11 o'clock at night. An entire season passed and I had no clue because I was stuck at the computer working without pay to meet their deadlines. Before I knew it, winter had passed and it was almost spring. The higher-ups are either oblivious or they just do not care. Either way, it is not good. Cons: Sleep deprivation The constant questioning of life decisions Fits of anger at the excessive workload Hatred of computers Low pay Periods of insanity
