As the business side of SGI is seen as the primary revenue generator, the technical and IT side is often treated as a utility. As such, getting extra staff to expand IT teams is like pulling your own teeth out. Projects and task priorities are also changed from week to week, depending on what the latest trends are. This can often create a lot of reactive and unplanned changes. A lot of factors create a an environment where employees become actively disengaged, and a constantly changing culture is talked about, however staff don't see these changes. Burnout is fairly prevalent. Employee satisfaction surveys were conducted showing year after year dropping morale standards. Rather than addressing morale issues, the survey itself was abolished. No more problem! The union IT staff at SGI are in is centered around the business people as such, the CBA used doesn't reflect the pay rates reflective of IT staff in current market. Other sister crowns recognize certifications and experience and pay reflects this.
