Vantaggi

I worked at SAS for just about 6 years and enjoyed it. There were things the company could have done differently, but it's basically on par with other ambulance companies out there. All of the 911 ambulances on 24-hour shifts had stations which is much different than other companies. They bought a ton of brand new ambulances when they received the LACoFD contract and that was also a plus.

Svantaggi

A lot of people felt management didn't care about them -- I wasn't one of these people. Moral could be low at times. There's not really much a ladder to climb here...just basically from EMT/Paramedic to Field Supervisor. Management positions are slim. The fact that they don't pay the entire 24-hour shift in 2015 is mind boggling, but hopefully that's changed since then.

Vantaggi

Coworkers. Dispatch, EMTs, paramedics and field sups.

Svantaggi

Management. They nitpicked everything and micromanaged constantly... not to mention how uncaring and hateful they were. All they cared about was money and it was apparent with how they treated their employees. Racism showed its ugly head more than a few times to those close enough to hear conversations... They had a way of getting what they wanted and not taking, "no" for an answer. They'd promise to honor your days off, then tell you you have to work. If you insisted you couldn't, they'd respond with, "well you have to make that car payment don't you?" In a threatening manner. If you were unfortunate enough to work LA dispatch over the weekend, you worked alone and got no relief for breaks or lunch or even restroom. If you let the phones ring or missed a call, you'd be lectured and possibly written up if it was an important call or Pomona dispatch complained. If you brought up not getting lunches or breaks, they'd lie and say you signed a waiver. (No such waiver existed) Resources were always taken from LA and they were left with no crews, then yelled at for not meeting ETAs. Crew members worked very hard, sometimes with no chance of lunch or breaks, and if dispatch tried to relieve them, they basically were told not to. To work them straight and that they were paid to work. Many laws were broken to make them more money... just a bunch of crooks. HR also lied to back management against employees. She covered her tail well.
