Vantaggi
I like some of the people I worked with. Commission bounces are nice. Tools, phone, van, uniforms provided.
Svantaggi
I started as an A&E factory service tech and then later was bumped up to a new Sears van as a Sears in-home services tech. There is a huge push for sales (Home warranties, Protection agreements, Service add-ons and more). You can basically get by at this job with sales alone. If your sales are high you will not be let go/fired for basically anything. The technology side of things is very outdated. The most up to date thing is the iPhone 5 you get. Aside from that, you get a dinosaur Panasonic Toughbook, that will likely crash a few times a week. This is not a 9-5 job, some days you will be done very early, and others you will get so many calls added on to you that you won't finish till 7-8pm. There is an unfair penalty for being able to take home your van, the first 35 min and last 35 min of every day are not paid. The Technical assist team is clueless, some of them have never even touched an appliance before. the benefits are very overpriced for what you get. My benefits for health, dental and vision was around $230 and I did not have top tiers. The benefits are very limited as well, health, dental, vision, flexible spending account, life, short term long term, stock plan, and that's about it. There is no longer an employee discount program, they recently took that away. Not a lot of positive attitudes at this company seems like every call you make whether to a customer or to some kind of internal support most people have an attitude and hate working or dealing with sears. Sears is not doing well financially that is why they push the sales so much, don't be surprised if you are sold off or laid off soon.
