Culture & Values: Company lacks vision, driven in part by the absence of a long-term strategy, by high turnover at all levels, and by lack of retail experience at the senior leadership level. Employee morale is very low due to heavy workload, poor working conditions and poor company outlook. Highly matrixed organization makes forward progress difficult. Senior leaders lead by intimidation as opposed to leading by example. Compensation & Benefits: Poor health benefits, company does not offer 401K contributions, unattainable bonus plan (hasn't paid out in years), raises are not given (many haven't had even a minimum cost of living raise in 5+ years). Minimal employee discount given at stores, and many exclusions apply. 6 paid holidays given (compared to 9+ at other corporations, Sears corporate employees must work on Christmas Eve, the day after Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve). Career Opportunities: Those in middle-management or lower positions are not given opportunities to advance their career without switching jobs or moving to other departments within the organization. Company does not promote from within, except at the Senior leadership level, where promotions occur regularly.
