Vantaggi
-if you are new to the IT field, this is not a bad place to get your feet wet. You will start in the IOC Helpdesk taking calls and working on desktop level issues for a wide variety of customer environments. -full health care with Blue Cross Blue Shield that doesn't come out of your paycheck. -you will interact with many different applications and customer environments, it is a good learning opportunity if you can focus your efforts.
Svantaggi
-hostile management > your supervisors, managers (in the IOC or beyond on the engineering teams) will often not back you up. Any mistakes you make, even if you correct them, could lead to a write up or being fired. This includes anything the could not have been foreseen or was caused by a customer employee tampering within their own environment. -management and higher ups are focused on agreeing to complete more and more requests and projects for customers, without confirming if they are reasonable or possible. Many times the Sales team or Project managers have promised impossible SLA's or support for products that our engineers have no training in. -our CEOs send out monthly newsletters to the entire company talking about our progress and other events going on within the company. They include the company profits, and we have been going positive for some time. Recently we had a 30% profit margin and yet we cannot afford to hire any more employees to take on the ever increasing demands on the engineering teams. -If you are able to get into the "in-crowd" you can go pretty far. They will make sure you have a position, regardless of your skill, integrity, or competence. You will receive a new title, pay raise, and most likely be responsible for an important team where you have no idea what they do on a daily basis. -none of the leadership or upper-management appear to have any concern or common sense as to what effect their decisions have on the day to day business of the company, and the lives of the employees. -hostile, uncooperative, incompetent, lazy, and toxic people can fly under the radar pretty well here. Employees like this can get away with quite a bit and may even become promoted and work here for some time before they finally shoot themselves in the foot. This is in spite of numerous incidents and complaints by many trusted and valued employees.
