Vantaggi
A good amount of transparency from the top down - we can't expect executive leadership to share EVERYTHING with us, but Raj and Nikita try to be as open with us as possible which I greatly appreciate, especially in crazy times like these. A proven, disruptive product. Great benefits and competitive pay. 90-day pledge to do no layoffs during COVID - took steps to ensure that each employee, from entry level to senior, was safe and healthy. Teams work cross-functionally - we're small, so it's easy to get to know the majority of employees beyond the standard water cooler chats. People here have great energy and are easy to get along with. We're rapidly expanding, which means that there are some growing pains - but that's going to happen at any startup.
Svantaggi
This is not a 9-5 job, you don't clock in and out, and you're held to a high standard. There's often a lot of early mornings and late nights, and sometimes some weekend work - some people love that, some people hate that. I'm personally one of the ones who thrives in that type of environment (no micromanagement, really have to be accountable for yourself and the work you put in), but I can absolutely see how it can deter some people. It's not as easy to "unplug" yourself here as it can be at other companies (especially with everyone being remote because of COVID). There's also not as many resources, and a bit of a "figure-it-out" culture as everyone is incredibly busy. Very much a foot-on-the-gas-pedal-at-all-times mentality. But the important thing to note is that we are a rapidly growing company, and everybody is here for a reason. The day to day work that you put in directly affects the business and the growth we are experiencing. Sometimes there is no work-life balance, but we all have the collective mindset that this is going to pay off in the long run. The startup life is hectic! Just know that if you're coming to memSQL, you're going to be working hard but the rewards you'll be reaping are going to be tremendous.
