Vantaggi
I've been with memSQL for about a year and a half, and it has been a great experience. The pace is fast and there are a lot of changes, but that comes with any growing startup. Job descriptions can be a bit blurry, you get to work cross-functionally with other teams, your opinion is valued. The people are great - everyone I've had the pleasure of working with is very friendly and down to earth. Amazing perks, benefits, flexibility to work from home. For me, work-life balance = flexibility, and I think the environment is very flexible in that you can choose your own hours (more or less), but note that this is not some 8-to-5 job, sometimes you work odd hours to get the job done. I like that everyone is held accountable for getting their work done. My team in particular strikes a great balance between independent work and collaboration, which is ideal for me. I love that memSQL genuinely cares about the engagement and well-being of its employees, and always puts its people first. Amazing care and attention paid to diversity lately (they even organized a whole day of seminars and discussions dedicated to Juneteenth).
Svantaggi
Not for someone who isn't disciplined enough to work independently, as you won't get micromanaged here. Frequent changes can scare some people off, but if you're adaptable then you will thrive here. I would like to see friendships form between people from different teams - sometimes I see a lot of salespeople hanging with salespeople, engineers with engineers, and so on.
