- Engineering talent is top notch, especially the senior talent that have been at the company for 5+ years. Lots to learn and take away from these people. - Core engine product is spectacular and very well developed. - Very few meetings and bureaucracy on the engineering side; you are given lots of time to focus on your work and learn.

- Very high turnover, even for a startup. Specifically for the cloud team, several managers and senior engineers were hired and let go within months. This is bad for team morale and young new graduates were often left with little guidance and confusion. - SRE's are extremely overworked at the moment. There are too few SRE's for the number of customers that need to be supported. - Promotions are difficult. There are very few promotions to give out, and it is unclear to employees what exactly needs to be done to get to the next level. - Lack of transparency. Engineering management and the CEO seem to send different messages. Engineering management seems to be more prudent/cautious on messaging related to company growth while the CEO sometimes gives long and convoluted answers to yes/no questions. It is hard for an engineer to understand exactly how well or how badly the company is doing. - Previously strong engineering culture has slowly been eroded by marketing and sales. The focus of the company at the moment is on selling and growth. As of now, most new features being built are attempts to see what sells and what does not.

This is really great feedback. I'd like to address some of your concerns: - Folks hired and let go quickly. At a startup, when you hire people in leadership positions, it is critical that they be the right people for those roles. If that's not the case, companies need to move quickly. Our goal is to get it right the first time; if we don't, it is hard on everybody. - SREs are overworked. Yes, they are! We should be staffed to not need heroics, which is why we're growing the team. We have two new SREs starting soon, and we're hiring at least two more. - Eng leadership and CEO send different messages about company outlook. Startups are roller-coasters. CEOs like to talk about the peaks, managers have to navigate the troughs. That doesn't mean that either one is being misleading about the view from their seat. That said, seems like we should make sure our messages are aligned. - Promotions are hard. For a startup our size, we have a pretty well-defined ladder and promotion process. We clearly need better communication, however. For example, there are no promotion quotas or limits. - Strong engineering eroded by marketing and sales. The top companies in our space spend far more than we do in sales and marketing relative to their size. We should be able to scale up emphasis without eroding our engineering culture, but sounds like we could use some work here. Thanks again for the feedback.

Focus on creating a culture where employees feel respected, supported, and valued. Take employee feedback seriously and hold managers and team leads accountable for how they interact with their teams. When employees raise concerns or ask for support, ensure those issues are addressed with meaningful action rather than being overlooked. Better communication, transparency, and leadership accountability would help build trust, improve morale, and strengthen employee retention.
