Vantaggi
So much reach. It's incredible the type of products you can work on (depending on your team). The people around you are building literally the future of Sony consumer products. This makes it really exciting and invigorating, when you know you're working on the things people will inevitably be using every day. Sony is a big, old corporation. While that can have its downsides (see below), it can also be an extremely valuable learning experience. You learn how a company this big survives, and (often) how it doesn't. Communication is key.
Svantaggi
Endless middle management, not enough forward movement, and too much bureaucracy. Though my colleagues did their best to keep politics to a minimum, it inevitably comes into play when dealing with the strictly hierarchical and siloed structure that SEL has. The layoffs I witnessed definitely gave everyone a kick in the butt, motivation-wise, but very little change actually happened below the common worker. Not a meritocracy. Though typical for a Japanese corporation like Sony, in the US this means you won't move up the ladder unless you're there for a long time.
