Vantaggi
1. First of all, I just want to say that the negativity I've read in some of the other reviews is pretty unwarranted. I'm not a manager or an owner, so I'm not writing this in an effort to save face. I'm just an engineer working for the company who wants to do the right thing. Please keep what I'm about to say in your mind when reading other reviews. 2. SCS has done more for me both professionally and personally than any other employer by a long shot. While I was going through a tough situation in my personal life (on more than one occasion), they were more than accommodating; they legitimately cared about my situation and bent over backwards for me. I could not have asked for more. They acted more like friends and family than coworkers and managers. Here's just a few examples: When my car needed repairs, they offered to let me drive one of the company vehicles. Our project manager even picked me up at the shop when my ride didn't show up. When my family needed me, management told me to always put family ahead of anything else. After having a rough night, the CEO noticed I was struggling and let me go home to rest. HE came to me. I didn't even ask to leave. 3. Our CEO is taking a lot of heat in these reviews, so I feel the need to set the record straight. The company is going through growing pains and a lot of changes that go along with it. It's a little chaotic and stressful, but that's to be expected. Yes, sometimes he clearly shows signs of being stressed out.... but that's only because he's human, and he'd be the first one to admit it. It's not a bad thing to have a CEO who doesn't act perfect and/or better than everyone else. He readily admits he makes mistakes (because everyone does) and is ALWAYS open to feedback and advice. 4. Sometimes being short staffed happens. It's never fun, but sometimes it can't be avoided. On one such occasion the CEO dropped everything he was doing and started answering helpdesk calls and closing tickets. On that same day, a client required an onsite visit and we simply did not have enough people to send someone out. The CTO also dropped everything he was doing for a simple onsite visit. They did this to not only help out our front lines, but also to do the right thing for our clients. 5. One thing that is made clear over and over again is that if an engineer has to make a tough choice quickly, as long as they act in the client's best interest, they did the right thing. I've never seen anyone reprimanded for doing what they felt was the best thing to do at the time. 6. As stated previously, the company is growing very fast. There are a lot of things that are going to change, and they will change. Management knows that trying to change everything at the same time isn't a good idea, so they're taking a few steps at a time. Some people aren't happy with the order in which things are changing (such as after hours maintenance procedures that worked when the company was small, but are getting increasingly difficult as we grow). Management has acknowledged that the process needs to be reworked, but it just simply isn't the right time to do it. It may not be fun, but things would be even less fun if everything changed all at once. Ultimately, management is doing the best they can, and personally I think they're doing the right thing. 7. Although we don't have company provided health insurance (explained in the cons section), we do have the best 401k plan that I've ever seen. 8. To sum up, the negative reviews that are currently posted have been posted in a time of a lot of change. Stress levels are naturally higher right now than they have been in the past, but it won't be like this forever. Once the company completes the transition things will be better than ever. Sometimes, crossing a raging river, climbing a mountain, walking through fire, and slogging through a swamp are necessary to reach a better place for everyone.
Svantaggi
1. One of the largest complaints I see is that SCS does not offer health insurance. While I agree that this is considered a "con" I do understand why it isn't offered. With a little research it's easy to see that company provided health insurance is almost impossible to afford for a company this size. Without getting into politics, I'll just say that someone is definitely to blame for the lack of health insurance, but it isn't SCS. 2. This one I'd consider a "con" but it's not specific to SCS and the vast majority of my coworkers (management included) are easy to work with and ALL of them are good people. There are a couple who can make certain aspects of the job more difficult than they should be, BUT you'll have this problem no matter where you're working. If you just take the time to look at the bigger picture, those same people are absolutely 100% critical to the company and this needs to be considered before writing them off. The ones who are generally considered "difficult" to work with are still good people with good ideas and they really are just trying to help. Intention means everything so please consider this before judging no matter where you work. Just a little more understanding would turn this con into a pro.
