Vantaggi
Whether you like working at Speedway is based on your location. Being that I've been transferred to a few different stores during my time, I've had a chance to experience good locations and bad locations. I am not a manager but I am above a CSR and Shift Leads, so I'm basically a step below a store manager. For those who work there, you can probably figure out what position I have. It's not the best job out there but it's good for those looking to expand their resume or have a job during current rough economic times. The good: -If you work hard and are a team player, you will gain the respect of your co-workers. Initially, if you're new, you have to earn their respect by working hard and not just standing at the register if you are higher than a CSR. -If you work full time or overtime as a trainee or co-manager, you get health, dental, and other benefits. I'm not sure if these are great benefits, but better to have average benefits than none at all. -You experience regular customers every day, and many of these customers make it funner to work at Speedway than one would initally think it would be. -As a member of management within the store, you feel important and are empowered to make important decisions that regular CSR's are not asked to make. -If your store manager is nice and helpful, the learning process is not very steep.
Svantaggi
-Pay should be better, at all levels, but especially for managers and co-managers. They have to deal with a lot, including monthly quality assurance inspections. If they fail these inspections, they get no bonus. To pass the inspections, there's about 50 things that you have to make sure you're on top of. -Not enough hours for the store. Each store I've gone to could use an extra 1 or 2 employees but Speedway is a little too cheap to see the light. -As a member of management, you aren't given much leeway in days and hours you work. This means working weekends, which may lead me to look elsewhere if that aspect doesn't improve. -Customers constantly leave messes for you to clean up. You'd think people would have respect for others but they simply don't. -Working on the registers all day long is not fun and makes the day go by really slowly. Although I haven't had to experience this much, the 5-10 times that I have experienced this, I find myself wanting to shoot myself. -Corporate creates food court goals(selling certain amount of hot sandwiches/pizzas/roller grill items) along with selling point goals(sell certain amount of candy each month). It is ridiculous, especially the candy selling points. -Expanding on the previous statement, corporate expects everyone, including CSR's, to sell, sell, sell. Sell the Speedy Rewards card, sell hot food items, and sell specific candy items for the particular month. But they do not provide any real compensation, 2% bonus to CSR's is like giving someone $25 extra dollars per month for reaching your selling points. It's a slap in the face basically. -Upper management within the corporate structure has lost touch with the store employees. What's even worse is that many of these corporate people started off in the stores.
