Vantaggi
Co-workers are wonderful and understanding
Svantaggi
• Recruitment practices are very unprofessional. For example, two people were hired for the same position. Then after only one month Management kept the stronger new hire and laid off the other employee. This tactic was unbeknownst to the candidates. • Job expectations are not clearly communicated. This can be attributed to, the fact that, my supervisors had little knowledge of the technical skills involved in Graphic Design. As a result, demands and instructions were often unreasonable. • Marketing and Design Strategies changed on a daily basis, which made it difficult to meet deadlines, because concepts continuously needed to be re-worked. • As a salaried worked, I was still required to clock in and out. I was micro managed and did not have an avenue to express any creativity in my work. • During my employment, I observed that many positions had high turn over rates. • There is a noticeable division between Management and the rest of staff. Often Managers would not acknowledge or greet subordinates. Not even a simple “good morning”. • The Human Resources department did not appear to maintain the level of confidentiality required when employees lodged complaints. Serious matters were handled unprofessionally. Employees therefore felt like they had no legitimate recourse when experiencing on-the-job issues. • Though I held the position of Graphic Designer, I was expected to contribute to Marketing and Web Design. However, this was only communicated to me in my performance review. • The performance review was a “bashing session”. It was not conducted in a constructive manner nor was it a collaborative exercise. • Management was very secretive about the duties of new hires and freelancers. This created an environment where the employees in my area felt like they had no job security. • During my employment, the Web Design position was eliminated, and I was expected to assume the role of the former employee. There was no mention of additional compensation, until I raised the issue. And even then, I had to fight ‘tooth and nail’ to receive a very small increase. • I am a conscientious, diligent worker, who always maintained an outstanding employment record. However, at Stanton Optical I was never appreciated, and my work was never praised.
