Svantaggi

I started at State Farm almost 6 years ago and am so happy I no longer have to drive all the way to the "office" to be monitored like a child. When I started, it was truly a wonderful environment. Training, great coworkers, better office locations, and true flexibility. I honestly felt blessed to work for such a great company. All that really mattered was that you put in your 38.5 hours in every week, got your work done and all was well. I could come in early to make up time if I needed to leave earlier one day andgetting a day or weekend off was NEVER a problem. What happened when the company moved to the "new world" or "new model" is a true nightmare. Everything you do is monitored. They know when your mouse is moving, they know what you have opened on your screen and have the ability to micromanage you down to the tee. If you're thinking about a promotion or a lateral move and you're not a shining example on your team then forget about it. Plus, you have to relocate to a hub (Phoenix, Dallas, Atlanta) and from what I hear the environment there is even worse. They’re also cutting back on relocation benefits from what I hear which was one of the company’s best perks. Then the metrics....oh god. I can understand metrics a guide as to how one is doing but the nature of the work doesn't align with what they are expecting. Since it is a team environment, people end up doing a poor job to "meet the numbers" leaving someone else to pick up the mess. They want you to be a robot taking call after call and all the while you don’t know who is on the other end of that phone and how long it is going to take to resolve the problem or at the very least help console them and make it right. "Well, you were over by 2 minutes on that call." Seriously?! The huddle board is your wall of shame, the huddles are used to keep you in line and on a tight leash. The point and PTO system are another thing entirely! "Oh look, you can now accrue time the more you work!" Well that's great and all but so what if I can never take any time off! We had to bid on the days off we wanted at the beginning of the year which left all Fridays and Mondays taken in the bid. Relatives coming into town? Too bad. Want to leave early to see a concert? Swap shifts with someone or you're not leaving early. I wish I was exaggerating but unfortunately, I'm not. The point system on the time clocks penalizes you for being late, calling out, etc. God forbid you have a family emergency. Too bad, you're getting points. There is absolutely nothing professional about the environment and it has become a true call center. Also, they've made it possible for your "team" to rat you out if they perceive you did something wrong in a claim. Key word is "perceive". That then goes to your boss and your boss's boss and you can pretty much forget about a promotion if you keep getting those. They've turned it into a brown-nosing, kindergarten like environment where you're tied to your desk all day like a prisoner. Now I’ve only worked in claims during my time there but from what I’ve read on here (Glassdoor), people from other departments and people from other companies, “EOM” applies to more than just claims. Every position that used to be professional is now a time-clock, micromanaged, production numbers worker. Lastly, once they announced most of the smaller offices would be closing back in May, people in my office started dropping like flies. Word was that the lease agreements allowed the company to give back floor space once people left which could save them money on rent and in turn likely close the office sooner. So, if that's the case, wouldn't it be in the company's interest to get people out ASAP either through attrition or firing? Just a thought.

Vantaggi

(At the time) Fair pay and predictable bonus structure They were pretty good at covering travel expenses and paying them back quickly Diverse workforce & diversity initiatives Fun and funny coworkers Opportunities for growth Again, this was all four years ago and has likely changed

Svantaggi

(At the time and now, according to other comments) Arrogant to a fault Total lack of innovation & willingness to innovate Odd attachment to the company's past (which prevents progress) High number of veterans (20+ years) who are determined to get that retirement money, and therefore, are resistant to change and technology Heavy reliance on command and control management style Poor decision-making that leads to losses of all kinds
